Prototyping with Inform
Bruno Dias wrote an article on quickly making narrative game bits with Inform 7. I don't know if this is a tool that I will use, as I don't have many parser games that I am interested in making. That being said, they make a very good argument for it's ease of use, something I value very highly. (Looking at you, Unity... e_e )
I'm going to investigate/explore what I may want to make when it comes to parser games, and what Inform is capable of. (Downloading Inform was in my to do bookmarks so that bit is done at least.) I'll report back on what I may make. I have an idea for a vampire game that could have an early prototype in this format...
Gruescript
This isn't actually marked off the to-do list yet, but Gruescript by Robin Johnson is a super lightweight parser-like game engine, and I am very excited to try it out. Their game Party Line was so delightful and really endeared me to the engine.
Koji Yamamura's Animation
These videos are a delight. Each is wonderfully animated, all with a unique and hand-made flaire. The way characters move is so weird and endearing. I especially loved the sound effects in Kid's Castle, and I'd love to do something with sound design that is all person-made.
Below is the playlist I watched, linked to 'The Sandwiches,' the short with my favorite moment.
