Contrails of My Tears
I completely forgot to mention this in my last post, but I listened to a section from This American Life Episode 553, The Contrails of My Tears. I fully forgot why I put it on my to do list, but it was delightful, especially right before I hopped on a flight. (God I wish they still had mask mandates.)
Speaking of flights, my travel book was absolutely fantastic.
Where There's a Will
Where There's a Will by Sulari Gentill was absolutely awesome. It's been a few months since I've read a book book and this was so fantastic. I didn't know until it was over that it's book 10 in a series of WWII mysteries - it stands on its own.
Rowland Sinclair, Australian artist and semi-aristocrat, is named as the beneficiary of his friend Danny Cartwright’s will. When Danny is found murdered, Rowland (and his merry band of friends) is summoned to Boston to settle the affair.
I love the characters in this book. They have very fully realized lives and relationships with each other, and it was so engaging throughout. It almost didn't feel like a mystery because I was so enthused with how the characters interacted - but don't get me wrong, the mystery was juicy and full of twists and turns. It had me on the edge of my seat for the entire read. I fully plan on going back and reading the first nine in the series.
I hope I can write a mystery like this in the future, because this story was stellar. I can't wait to see more of these characters.
